Raw materials, goods and services are purchased by the CropEnergies Group with due regard for ecological, economic and social aspects.
The Code of Conduct for Suppliers, which sets out guidelines for sustainable procurement and defines the environmental, labor and social standards to be met, forms part of the tendering process and contract negotiations with suppliers. It applies to suppliers along the entire value chain and is available to download from the website.
CropEnergies' sustainability activities begin at the upstream stages of the value chain, particularly in the procurement of raw materials. CropEnergies' biorefineries use agricultural raw materials of European origin, which are preferably sourced locally.
The sustainability of our agricultural raw materials is verified by means of certifications (e.g. REDcert, ISCC, 2BsVs). As part of the certification process, all interfaces involved in the value chain are regularly audited by independent experts and certified according to certification systems recognized by the EU. Compliance with the sustainability criteria is anchored in the contracts with raw material suppliers.
In addition to our certification, we are committed to implementing deforestation-free supply chains. We implement this commitment through our management approaches, which are constantly being developed to ensure the sustainability of our raw materials and suppliers.
CropEnergies sources certified, sustainable agricultural raw materials of European origin. By fully utilizing the grain, we can provide not only high-quality ethanol but also regional and GMO-free food and animal feed, which helps to secure the European protein supply and thus reduce imports. The starch content of around 4% of EU grain production is used for European ethanol production.

CropEnergies' biorefineries are located close to waterways or railroad lines. This shortens transportation routes and enables low-emission deliveries, mostly by ship or rail.
